Guy Tavares in ‘Het Schimmengebied’

Tonight it’s time for a very special edition of Het Schimmengebied, for this edition I have invited non other than Guy Tavares.

Guy Tavares is mostly known as head of the famous labels Bunker Records and Motorwolf from The Hague, and as drummer and singer of several bands, including Santa Cruz and Orange Sunshine. For intimates and initiates of the mysterious clandestine cult he as since initiated, he is also known as an infinite source of universal wisdom and knowledge, of which he will hopefully share some tonight with an in depth culture-historical treatment of great philosophers and other scumbags of the history of the West.

So, tune in your radio to Radio Tonka via 92.0 FM in The Hague, or listen via http://www.radiotonka.org in the rest of the world from 23.00 till 0.00 CET.

Bonus show

I started this blog because I was spamming my mailing list with endless mindless rattling almost every announcement for my fabulous radio show. I thought this was a good reason to start this blog, so I could fill it with endless rattling, in which my radio show announcements would make up only a tiny percentage of blog posts. But of course my infinitely inspired mind doesn’t work that way, and it starts to look like my blog is being filled with nothing but announcements for my radio show, becoming dreadfully repetitious.

Which reminds me, tonight, this fifth Thursday of the month, there will be a bonus edition of Het Schimmengebied from 23.00 till 0.00 on Radio Tonka. As usual I am not really sure what I will play, but currently I am sifting through industrial tunes of the more American kind, such as Nine Inch Nails, and, dare I say it? Marilyn Manson… but also from the Germans, such as Das Ich, and songs in other styles, such as from A Perfect Circle. I guess I might go on the nostalgic tour tonight…

The Wondrous World of Science and Technology

Yes everyone, tonight between 23.00 and 0.00 it is time for my show Het Schimmengebied again on Radio Tonka! This time my musical selection will be inspired by (more or less, depending on how well I will succeed in my preparations) themes surrounding the wonderful world of Science and Technology.

So find a cozy spot this evening in front of your radio receiver and tune in to 92.0 FM (if you live in The Hague) or http://www.radiotonka.org for another edition of Het Schimmengebied.

This evening that evening!

Oooohh, this evening it’s time again for Het Schimmengebied on Radio Tonka. I shall do a special reinterpretation of my sets at the Gogbot Festival last week, so if you missed this, this will be a great chance to hear what you have missed, or otherwise, a great way to relive your memories of that evening.

So tune in again this evening to 92.0 FM if you live in The Hague, or elsewhere to http://www.radiotonka.org between 23.00 and 0.00 for this evening’s edition of Het Schimmengebied.

Today I made stir-fried pumpkin for dinner, together with courgette, mushrooms and union. And a bit of salad with tomato and lettuce as a side dish. I think it is the first time I ever made dinner with vegetables without a traditional staple like potatoes or rice or pasta. At least stir-fried. Because I did make pumpkin before in the oven. Without potatoes or anything like that. Several times. Which was really nice. And I’ve made broccoli soup before, with cauliflower.

Also there is going to be another edition of Het Schimmengebied. Another special edition. It will be last one. The last special edition that is. For the coming time. I hope at least. Because I am not sure if I still can take it anymore. I’m afraid it is just becoming too much for me. All these special editions of my radio show. But sometimes life just leaves you no choice. And you have to do special editions of your radio show, weeks after weeks after weeks.
Luckily I will be joined by the lovely Nico again tonight. I think she will be able to pull me through this. Lets hope so. And let’s hope you will join us tonight. In this final special edition of Het Schimmengebied. From 23.00 till 1.00 on Radio Tonka, live through 92.0 FM in The Hague, and http://www.radiotonka.org throughout the universe.

PS: My Dutch is on holiday.

European spin

Whenever I follow the Greek crisis only from a distance (read: only through major Dutch newspapers), I quickly get the feeling, like many other people, that parts of the story remain substantially underexposed in the mainstream media.

In the past few days I was following the news in the same way again. In the Dutch media the Greek government is increasingly being depicted as a bunch of incapable, or even dangerous politicians, who are unable to negotiate rationally, let alone seem to act in any sensible way. I slowly started to think this might indeed be the case, and that the crisis at this point left the Greek government incapable of acting rational, despite their great stance in the past several months.

However, as soon as I looked deeper into the story again, it seems the European media are in fact creating more and more spin in their reporting. Check for example this interview with Varoufakis from yesterday. For someone who is depicted by mainstream media as a thoroughly incompetent minister of finance, it is remarkable, given the current situation of Greece, how clearheaded he remains. The sharpness with which he answers the (very critical) questions that are fired at him by the reporter is truly admirable in my view:

I think it shows that not so much Greece, but Europe is undergoing a crisis which it does not know how to handle anymore. Perhaps Europe should really start to listen to Greece (and, in fact, many economists supported by international media) more, and start to look into sustainable solutions for the current crisis in Europe.
